MASS GM AIRBORNE VACCINES FOR AUSTRALIA
DIR 126 - Notification of application
Receipt of licence application (DIR 126) from PaxVax Australia Pty Ltd for a clinical trial of a GM cholera vaccine
Application
The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has received a licence application from PaxVax Australia Pty Ltd (PaxVax) for the intentional release of a genetically modified (GM) bacterial vaccine into the environment (DIR 126), which qualifies as a limited and controlled release under section 50A of the Gene Technology Act 2000 (the Act).
PaxVax is seeking approval to conduct a clinical trial of a GM live bacterial vaccine against cholera. Once underway the trial is expected to be completed within one year, with trial sites selected from local government areas (LGAs) in Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.
My Suggestion is for us all to spread the word and ensure public debate and input is heard
I will speak to the present members of the Australian Alliance, and a media release will be prepared in the next couple of days.
I will update this page as information becomes available PaxVax are an american company new to the scene in vaccines, registration details of the company in Australia are hard to find, they applied in Australia for a patent on the 30/7/2010 of the Cholera vaccine.
Australia have had no cases of cholera contracted here since 1977, so the trial makes no sense, the GM vaccine is derived from chimpanzee, which should open the eyes of many as this is where major outbreaks of some nasty illness have come from.
The government are so far not allowing public comment, and the media have made no comment, I have grave fears for such a trial, as there is no obvious reason to trial it here, let alone any type of airborne genetically modified substance, begging the question, is this the first time?
