Asks Mark Aldridge Independent.  The only way the two countries could achieve the unrealistic emissions targets being pursued by their respective governments would be by exporting their industries, reducing their population or creating chronic recession.  In a detailed submission to the New Zealand Government, by the Carbon Sense Coalition concluded that their emissions targets are not feasible, not sustainable and far from being just. "The submission analyses the maths of the proposal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 50% of 1990 levels by 2050. "In the period from the base year of 1990 to 2010, New Zealand emissions have grown by 22%. This 22% growth will need to be eliminated before the Kiwis get to start the process of achieving 50% cuts from 1990 levels. "However, New Zealand's population has also grown since 1990, and is expected to rise from 3.5 million in 1990 to 6.2 million by 2050, creating a situation where near twice the population must learn to live on half of those who lived in the 1990’s."The maths shows that the 50% cut to 1990 levels by 2050 will require Kiwis to reduce emissions per capita by 73% from 1990 levels. Will their grandkids learn to happily live on just 27% of the resources that they use now, asks Viv Forbes of the Carbon Sense Coalition. "Even in the Great Depression, production of carbon dioxide only fell by 25% from booming 1929 to the dreary bottom in 1932, when many people minimised their emissions by queuing quietly outside soup kitchens.  "The targets being set by both governments promise to be three times worse than the great depression.   "There are four major sources of man's production of carbon dioxide in Australia and New Zealand - transport, electricity generation, agriculture and basic industries such as cement, steel and aluminium.  "Politicians need to explain to us how they plan to massively cut our use of carbon fuels in all of these essentials of modern life, when Carbon leakage will eliminate any savings, as Industries head of shore, where manufacturing standards emit more Co2 than they do in our countries” Says Mark  "The European Union have already seen the result of reliance on sunshine and sea breezes attempting to power and industrial economy, with their main power grid operators warning the people will have to get used to only using power when it is either available or affordable.” "It seems politically improbably that either Australia or New Zealand will suddenly embrace large new hydro or nuclear plants in the near future and geothermal will never fill the gap in time. Will the de-industrialisation of Europe, be the best example for us to follow? Asks Mark "Our politicians are gambling massive community assets on some wobbly computer forecasts of global warming. But nature may continue to surprise us with earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, tornados, fires or even global cooling. In the event such global disasters continue to occur for what ever reason, a smart government would be preparing with initiatives like increased water, power and food production, not with crop diversion and water shortages. "Climate is always changing. Mankind must do what successful humans have always done – be prepared for any disaster that may hit. Then be equipped to recover and rebuild afterwards. And take all forecasts with a grain of salt.  "Both Australia and New Zealand would be better off today if all the money wasted on the climate change industry had been spent building more robust infrastructure and establishing shelters and emergency resources. Money spent on preparation for greater supply of water, electricity, communications, medical services and shelter, after a disaster these will be far more appreciated by victims than knowing we have played a leading role in throwing all our resources at unproven weather forecasts. Says Mark. While both countries chase their tails, trying to capture and reduce a gas that is the life blood of our planet, genuine pollutants like Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide and the many dangerous emissions found spewing from the millions of vehicles and Industries are not being addressed, and the base load power needed to bring the worlds most needy out of poverty, let alone urgently needed increases in food production, will remain of the agenda. Since when is genocide pursued by elected officials? With over 1000 scientists now debating the original findings of the UN’s IPCCPanel, including many current and former members of the original panel, one would have hoped preparation for what lays ahead for the people of the world would over ride, what appears to be the total de-industrialisation by our Governments.  "Not India or China; not Japan or Taiwan; not Canada, USA or South America - no one will follow us in the race to destroy our economies’ says Mark, so what the hell are our leaders thinking? When a potential leader of a country, stands up and makes the promise “There will be no tax on carbon if I am elected” to get the peoples vote, then simply ignores that promise, it would appear that neither democracy or what is best for the country is of any importance too them, and we know who will pay the price for yet another of their many mistakes. Embracing renewable energy, increased recycling, lowering pollution and ensuring we are well equipped for what mother nature may dish out, are being replaced with the catch cry, use less and pay more, not the something we would expect to hear from those we entrust with our long term future, says Mark Long term vision has been replaced in the most with the term between elections, so dare we trust a new tax proposed to change the long term weather, I think not, over the past few decades governments have slipped into a habit of short term fix its, so every Australian should be concerned with a tax that is being sold as the saviour of our planets long term future, especially considering both Australia and New Zealand could shut down completely tomorrow, and have less than 1.5% impact on what little Co2 is emitted by humans as a whole. Its getting cold, so I will sign off lol Mark M AldridgeIndependent and Spokesperson for the Alliance Australia08 82847482  0403379500aldridgemark@bigpond.com www.markmaldridge.com Thanks to Viv Forbes of the Carbon Sense Coalition, for so much info over the years, and the parts of this article I used from one of his media releases.
