*** Rezone our Slums***
With Home ownership slipping from our children’s grasp,
building and construction slowing, our poorer areas developing into what could
be considered urban slums and Urban sprawl becoming a major election issue could
there be an easy answer to appease all sides of the argument?
Homes in disrepair, large blocks of land for which water
restrictions have devastated any chance of envious front lawns and gardens and
for most of these Home owners on our lowest incomes, very little chance of
finding the money to improve their residence, let alone cover basic home
maintenance.
An easy answer might just be around the corner,”Re-Zoning
could hold the answer” Says MLC Independent Candidate Mark Aldridge.
R300 or Similar Zoning of these areas which would allow 2
homes on the one site would empower such a large area of the population, land
values would rise, redevelopment would with out doubt have a three pronged
effect, increased employment, a new supply of affordable homes and a new found
pride in the overall vision for these ailing communities.
Even for those residents that do not take up the
opportunity to redevelop, with the onset of modern construction would bring with
it a serous change and newfound optimism in the overall appearance of these
communities. “
Some times the answers are very simple” says Mark, so
many sections of the community have reaped the rewards of our real estate boom,
its about time we helped those on the lowest incomes to lift their standard of
living, and whole state would benefit as a result.
“Ensuring the new homes constructed are energy efficient
would also have a large impact on both our dwindling resources and overall cost
of living for our low income earners” says Mark
Maybe even the South Australian Housing trust could
increase their capacity to find much needed properties at the same
time.
