Over the past 20 years accountability, honesty and transparency have been promised but rarely delivered, and the conduct of elections in general has also fallen to the way side. The percentage of un-enrolled Australians has risen along with names missing of electoral rolls in the tens of thousands, then appearing back on the roll after elections, informal votes and non attendance, let alone regular reports of missing ballot papers in the tens of thousands; a recent SA bi-election was short valid votes by near 30% of the enrolled voters.Political parties should be not involved in the electoral system at any level, other than advisory roles, handling postal voting applications, writing legislation, and handing out how to vote information “have all proven to be a disaster”, says Mark  The handing out of dodgy how to vote information has become common place, dressing up as another party has past scrutiny of the courts as has missing ballot papers in the tens of thousands, let alone even more names missing from the electoral rolls themselves. With such inequities within the integrity of our voting system, it is no wonder the divide between representative and elector has grown so wide.“There is no room in this country for Discount Democracy” Mark saidIn my many years in the political arena, I have yet to meet a voter from either side of politics who has shown disregard for their own voting rights or those of any Australian, in fact I feel safe to say, most if not all voters are unhappy with their current treatment by the electoral process. I fear until the electoral system is revived by a truly independent body consulting with the voters of this fine country to ensure a free and educated choice of representatives, we will continue to be disenfranchised by self interest.Mark Aldridge  (Independent candidate in South Australia) FYI; I have studied electoral law and election outcomes for over a decade, participated in the court of disputed returns relating to electoral law and precedent, and participated as a state and federal candidate on several occasions as a party leader and Independent candidate.
